Its been exactly five years since dad passed on, but one of his most fond memories was serving on the Coolidge, and how she struck the mines, then slipped off the reef into deep history. He was very proud to have manned the new eorlicken weapons. Dear old dad was naval reserve transporting army combat troops into the region, and the mission was so secretive no one knew who they were until too late. The captain was being shadowed by a japanese sub, Im not certain but I believe the Uss Tucker was sunk just prior to the arrival of the Coolidge, so there was an enemy sub working in the area, anyway they stayed on that island for a while, then hitchiked back to treasure island aboard a dutch freighter that had a greek captain arriving thanksgiving day, back in . Someday I have to put my hand on her, and thank her.
